How the connection works
The GainDesk popup sends the workspace user to Instagram authorization. After access is allowed, the callback exchanges the authorization code server-side and stores the resulting connection for the workspace.
- Authorization begins from the GainDesk Connect Instagram action.
- The authorization code is exchanged server-side.
- The popup closes after completion and the parent GainDesk page refreshes its account status.
Permissions used by GainDesk
GainDesk requests the Instagram permissions currently needed for the professional-account messaging workflow.
- instagram_business_basic identifies and displays the connected professional account.
- instagram_business_manage_messages supports receiving, synchronizing, displaying, and sending Instagram direct messages.
- Workspace users remain responsible for using connected-account messaging lawfully.
Practical troubleshooting
If a connection succeeds but the inbox remains empty, test with a fresh DM to the professional account and accept any Instagram message request before synchronizing again.
- Confirm the account is an Instagram professional account.
- Confirm the connecting user is authorized to manage it.
- Remove and reconnect the account if the saved authorization should be refreshed.
